Key Takeaways
- Prioritize practical effects over excessive digital generation if you prefer a tangible sense of danger.
- Check the pacing of the opening act to ensure the creature reveal earns its keep.
- Consider whether the tone leans toward lighthearted fantasy or genuine suspense before hitting play.
- Look for films where the setting functions as a character rather than just a static backdrop.
- Verify the runtime matches your mood, as sprawling epics move much slower than lean slasher hybrids.
